A properly done V-6. This is subjective and some on this website disagree that any V-6 can sound good but they have not heard the VQ or VG series Nissan at full song nor have they heard any alfa v-6 or even a small and restrictionless mazda KL series. A properly done V-6 is both powerful and lightweight. An example of this is Ford's own 90 degree 3.8. "Oh He's on crack" you might say, however it's over 100 pounds lighter than a 5.0 pushrod and has the same power that it had. Who would have thought a v-6 windstar mini-van would have more power than a fox mustang cobra using similar era engines. In 60 degree form are very close to natural balance needing little extra balancing shafts, have good weight balance. The packaging and efficient design of a properly done v-6 is amazing on many levels. That's why I like them*

*-i do have a place in my heart for a straight-6 or even 8. Their sound is magic as well however their packaging and weight I am not a fan of.

The VQ engine makes me wish I was born without ears.

I don't understand the hate the VQ gets, especially the sound.

The VQ sounds awesome. It's raspy and mean.

It's like someone put gravel into a coffee can and shook it up. Just sounds wrong.

I can get that. Im sure quite a few engine notes are heavily dependant on exhaust and intake effects. Rarely does any engine sound right at all revs and some of these "tuned" straightpipe dyno queens can sound pretty awful but give it 3-1 headers with the right crossover angle after....that can wake up most any v6.

I mean, not to brag but the 302 in my Willys sounds pretty damn good :D
